‘Gordailua 1987-1988. Depósito’. Juan Luis Moraza

In late 1998, Juan Luis Moraza came to an agreement with the leaders of the Alava Provincial Council that a group of his sculptures be added to the institution’s collection in the form of a long-term loan, along with a donation of five other pieces.

The Gordailua 1987-1988 Depósito exhibition brings together two sets of works from this loan, created between 1987 and 1988: Moldes para la oscuridad (Moulds for Darkness) and Negaciones (Negations). This group of works, most of which have never been exhibited since, is accompanied by a large amount of accompanying material – drawings, diagrams, texts and various objects selected by the artist – thereby underling his profile as an art thinker and theorist, someone accustomed to assuming the obligation of explaining the cognitive process he goes through.
